It is mid summer and there is a heat wave in the city. In the old
downtown arena, where a female fighting event is being held, the air
conditioning is struggling to keep the temperature below 90F (32C). Music blasts out signalling the start of the next part of the program as the Referee enters the arena followed by two young women wearing only thongs, boots and boxing gloves. In the dressing rooms the air con has failed completely and the temperature there has risen to well over 100F, so both women's bodies are already glistening with a sheen of sweat. The Referee climbs into the ring and the two young women follow him. The crowd noise dies away to a hush as he brings the fighters into the centre of the ring and lifts the microphone to his lips. The audience has been eagerly anticipating this fight as it has been highlighted on the program as a Grudge Fight. WARNING! This fight contains some bloody scenes. |
