Summer in the City

Part 1, The Dirt Side Arena

It's a really hot, sweaty night when the telephone rings and I pick it up to find that it is my best mate Bob inviting me to go with him to a watch a fight.
"When?" I ask, expecting him to give me a date a few days ahead.
"Now" he replies, "It's due to start at 1am in Hams!  I just won a pair of tickets in a poker match!"

Hams is a very seedy part of the city; and not at all the sort of area I usually hang out.

"Thanks anyway Bob, but I think I will pass this time." I reply without a moment's pause.
"It's a mixed naked fight between some ball busting bitch from up north and the local champion from Hams!" he says, knowing that this will likely make me change my mind.
"Ah - you should have said it had a woman in it!" I laugh.  "In that case I'm on for it!"

Thirty minutes later Bob and I arrive at a run down apartment block in north Hams and climb the stairs to the fourth floor.
"This is it!" says Bob knocking on the door to apartment 467.
The door is opened by a greasy looking guy who blocks the doorway until Bob shows him our pair of tickets.
"OK go through to the balcony!" he says gruffly after tearing the tickets in half.
"Are there drinks?" asks Bob.
"Beer's $10 a bottle" growls the guy "and there's nothing else!"
"OK, give us a couple each!" says Bob handing over $40.

We make our way through the stinking hot and foul smelling apartment to the balcony at the rear.  The cramp space is full apart for two unoccupied chairs at one end.

"Ah, there's our seats!" says Bob like we are going to the opera.
As we get to our places the guy returns with our beers.  We take the beers and settle down on the seats and for the first time I look down from the balcony onto a grubby patch of ground below lit by four lamp posts.  The area is hemmed in on all four sides by apartment blocks similar to the one we are in.  Between two of the lamp posts somebody has dumped a large truck wheel like a remnant from some long forgot breakdown.

Suddenly a naked woman strolls boldly out into the lighted space.  The warm glow of her glistening oiled body contrasts with the dark dirty look of her surroundings.  She throws her arms out to embrace the assembled crowd on balconies and at the windows of the apartments.
Our closest companion on the balcony snarls, "It's the Punk that beat up Gina last year! I hope Cabo pulps her!"
