| To the north of Sheena' territory, at the
edge of the desert, there dwelt a tribe known as the Panther people who
believed that they were descendants of the union between Black Panthers
and humans. They regarded Sheena as a friend in that she too was a
descendant of a hunter, in her case the union of a female human and a
male lion But Sheena was also seen as a rival for the top place in the
human-animal kingdom. So each season when Sheena's skin took on
its lioness markings
the Panthers would invite Sheena to fight their chosen champion for the
